I think I squeezed 28 hours into a day

22 05 2008

Yesterday was a crazy whirlwind busy day of driving, meeting, driving some more, meeting some interesting characters in Western MD, and more driving. I accompanied the RD for Savageman to the Deep Creek area to make connections for the race, recruit 170 volunteers to staff the course, and make sure relationships are managed and cultivated. We had 9 meetings between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. One of the neatest was with the Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI). We met the director who is an Olympian and has an Olympic torch in his office from the Summer Olympics in Greece in 2004. I got to hold the torch … pretty cool but it didn’t really register until we were on the ride home. The base was made of olive wood from Greece. Very symbolic. Suffice it to say that it was a long day and I was very happy to be home.

I also learned more about the foundation that is the sponsor and recipient of the funds raised at the triathlon. The “Tri-to-Win” triathlon series is produced by the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation. The foundation raises awareness about sun safe practices, supports funding of skin cancer research, and conducts educational programs about early detection and awareness of skin cancer.

On a domestic note, the dog was not a happy camper overnight and during the day. He on occasion has an upset stomach that I think is caused by a recurring parasite. However, his upset tummy meant that I was up every hour on Tuesday night, and he made a horrific mess while he was home alone. This is one of the ways that I know J is my perfect match. He cleaned everything and didn’t breathe a word about it before I actually got home. That’s true love, right? The dog is off food and on antibiotics until his tummy returns to normal.

I realized on the morning walk that I have a lovely 4 day weekend since it Memorial Day on Monday. Sweet!
