Sunscreen does help

18 05 2008

Keep you from looking like a total cycling geek, that is if you remember to wear it. Although the resulting tan lines you get with or without sunscreen could be seen by some like a testament to your true cycling grit. Our longest ride yet, 4 hrs, 60 miles, 3 Hammer Gels, 3 bottles of water, no stopping (except to fix my dropped chain, grrr) in beautiful Southern MD near Indian Head, La Plata, and lovely Port Tobacco. There were a few hills that kicked my butt, I got cranky at mile 45, ate some sugar [a gel] and got over it, and finished well.

We followed the cue sheet from the Oxen Hill Bicycle and Trail Club from a ride they sponsor in the fall, called the Indian Head 100. Each distance has a designated color arrow and along the route, you can see these arrows on the road. We had cue sheets but as long as the roads haven’t been re-paved, its easy enough to follow the arrows. The 63 miler is green, the 100 miler is yellow and the 30 miler is blue.

Post ride, we came home and tried to reconnect the HVAC unit on the roof…good times. However, going to see Robert Downey Jr. in IRONMAN was a welcomed break from all the activity of the day. When I first heard of the movie, I thought it was going to be about Ironman, the sport. I wondered “hey, how in the world is this guy going to be able to swim in that suit?” Joke was on me.
