Kronan originally were Swedish but the design was sold to a Chinese company which of course builds it in China. Still heavy but no longer indestructible. The price is quite a bit lower now, though.

This bike costs the equivalent of 1070$ in Sweden. (that’s including 25% sales tax, so maybe 0.8*1070 for you)

The bike is called “Skeppshult Natur Dam” in Sweden.

Have you looked at Kronan bikes?
Steel. Swedish.
Newly available in the US.
And much more affordable than the Skeppshult.
But, I have heard harsh criticisms of Kronan’s build quality.
