I walked into work today and the guard at the door told me that I could take the day off with double pay. Wouldn’t that just be the best Friday ever? She made me laugh so its going to be a good day. I started my day at 5:45 a.m. getting up to walk the dog before I went to the pool to swim for 50 minutes/2,000 yds. This will make a total of 5,800 yds this week, which is equivalent to 3.29 miles. This is what I call fun. All this swimming is supposed to prepare me for swimming 1.5 miles in the San Francisco Bay in June as part of the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon. I’ve also been running and biking a bunch but this is the most swimming I’ve ever done. Last year, I ran my first marathon at Big Sur. My goal was to just get more comfortable with longer distances, which I have but I was a serious slow poke [finished in 4:57, respectable but not fast].
The topic of shopping for engagement rings randomly came up yesterday. J and I know a couple who live down the street who’ve been dating for about 1 1/2 yrs, lived together for almost a year and are (in my opinion) rather young (she is 28 and he’s 30). Young B (the dude) was visiting yesterday prior to our run and he announced that he and S had gone shopping at I.Gorman (swanky jewelery store in DC). I immediately asked “what for?” and the response was “engagement rings” and I felt I’d missed something. J came out a moment later, had the same conversation and had the exact same reaction. Jokingly, I said “honey, how come WE don’t go ring shopping?” which I really wouldn’t ever want to do in my entire life. Again, a random incident, but noteworthy nonetheless.
